Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. We live with enthusiasm, adventure, and sometimes thinking out of the box. And yes, that is us years ago jumping off at Roche Harbor into the frigid waters near the diesel dock… in our wedding attire. We would not recommend it if you don’t like the taste of diesel, or are concerned about getting your wardrobe wet. The tradition of jumping off into the Puget Sound water after colors is no longer allowed (except for staff). In fact we were the only Bride, Groom and wedding party to have taken “the plunge”. Since that plunge, as residents we have emersed ourselves in the island; boating, exploring hidden gems with our dogs and family, and creating a community of friends. The island offers a respite from the often frantic lifestyle on the mainland. But it’s also a place where creativity, curiosity, and ingenuity abound. So it was only fitting that one “plunge” taken years ago, eventually led to another plunge…..

When we announced to our kids we had just bought a trolley business on the island, their first reaction was “You what???” After it sunk in, they weren’t so surprised after all, and in fact were delighted. Others have asked, “Why?”. Sometimes in life there are no clear answers, and you rely on your gut to drive along your decisions. The opportunity came along at the right time. We wanted something that spoke to our hearts and could make an impact. And along came the Jolly Trolley on San Juan Island. With decades of business and marketing experience between the two of us, and a love for the island, we knew we could make an impact. We would continue to provide island visitors and locals with transportation to see the breathtaking sites. And it appealed to our community sense to help businesses during the crucial peak seasonal months. And what better way to honor the laid back lifestyle of the island, than in an old fashioned, open air trolley!
